June 3, 2024 – Today, the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and the H2Global Foundation (H2Global) signed an addendum Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Tokyo, to accelerate cooperation in the field of clean hydrogen. The agreement was signed by Mr. Ichiro Takahara, Chairman & CEO of JOGMEC, and Markus Exenberger, Executive Director of the H2Global Foundation and builds on a previous agreement signed in February. The signing took place on June 3 during the Japan - EU Hydrogen Business Forum, co-chaired by Saitō Ken, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy.
The updated MOU details JOGMEC's implementing role for the 20bn USD clean hydrogen support program according to the "Hydrogen Society Promotion Act“ passed on May 17 2024.
"Together, JOGMEC and H2Global are strengthening their cooperation through regular exchanges and lessons learned," said Markus Exenberger, Executive Director of the H2Global Foundation. "We greatly value the close engagement and discussions that have been ongoing since February. We are pleased to see JOGMEC officially taking on their new role, and we look forward to supporting them in establishing the program. This initiative has the potential to significantly contribute to the creation of a global hydrogen market and highlight the importance of advancing clean hydrogen technologies."
”The 2022 Memorandum of Cooperation agreed between Japanese METI and the European Commission, has encouraged industrial players and research institutes to explore further cooperation in the field of hydrogen. I am very glad to see the first results of this cooperation, both at public and private level. The collaboration between JOGMEC and H2Global to create clean hydrogen markets is good news for the EU and Japan as we jointly seek to decarbonize energy-intensive industries and meet our net zero goals,” says Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy.
